1/4 cup white sugar 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup softened butter 1 egg 1 cup molasses
2 1/2 cups flour 1 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp salt 2 tsp cinnamon 2 tsp ground ginger 1 tsp ground cloves 1/2 cup applesauce 1 cup hot water
Directions:
Pre -heat oven to 350 degrees
Grease and flour a 9" baking pan
Cream together in a large bowl the sugars and butter. Beat in the egg and molasses. Sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger and cloves. Add to creamed mixture and stir. Stir in applesauce, then hot water. Pour into prepared pan. Bake one hour or until a knife inserted into center comes out clean. Cool in pan before serving.
Serving Suggestions: Great served with whipped cream, flavored whipped cream, stenciled powdered sugar designs, cinnamon or vanilla ice cream. Toasted and served with caramel sauce or Creme Anglaise.
